Happy Summer!
As band camp nears, know that I have a great young percussion teacher that is in the process of relocating to the Boston area. If you are looking for someone with fantastic skill, Jason Dye is a percussionist, educator, arranger, and adjudicator from Lexington, KY. He has been a music educator for over 10 years and has recently relocated to Cambridge, MA.
Dye has been the front ensemble instructor for various notable programs in Kentucky, including the state champion Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, the two-time BOA Class A champion and 20-time state champion Adair County High School, and the 2007 WGI Independent open semifinalist East Eighty indoor drumline. Since 2010 he has served as the percussion coordinator and arranger for Anderson County High School and Lindsey Wilson College, as well as continuing his work with Adair County High School.
From 2008 to 2010, Dye was the Assistant Band Director and Director of Percussion Studies at the United High School cluster in Laredo, TX, which included Washington and Trautmann Middle Schools. During his time there, he developed his skills as both an educator and musician, directing the percussion ensemble, teaching private lessons, writing/arranging for and directing the marching percussion section, and directing the newly revived jazz band. In 2009, he co-directed the Texas Educational Color Guard Association Scholastic A champion, United Indoor Drumline.
Mr. Dye studied percussion performance at Eastern Kentucky University under the direction of Dr. Jason Koontz, where he was exposed to a highly diverse musical curriculum which included Brazilian percussion, African drum and dance, Indian tabla, Caribbean steelpan, as well as advanced vibraphone and drum set studies. Dye was also a member of the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from 2004 to 2006, serving as the front ensemble section leader in 2006, and received a distinguished service award.
Dye holds a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University, a Massachusetts teaching license, and is a member of the Vic Firth Education Team.

Best wishes for a great rest of your summer!
